2026 Bible Conference 8

Oct 18, 2026  •  Steve Thomas

Drawing from the Greek word katartizo, meaning to adjust, mend, restore, or perfectly join together, this sermon explores how God works to mature and perfect believers throughout the Christian life. The speaker demonstrates through multiple New Testament passages that spiritual growth is neither self-generated nor passive, but rather the result of God doing the essential work while the believer yields, maintains the right mindset, and participates through love and the exercise of spiritual gifts. The sermon addresses three categories of believers: those who have made poor decisions and created division, those who have been overtaken in a trespass, and those who are simply in need of further growth. In all three cases, God is the one who does the mending, much as a fisherman repairs a net to make it fit for its intended purpose. The sermon concludes that the primary obstacle to spiritual maturity is not God's unwillingness to work, but the believer's resistance, wrong perspective, and failure to yield to what God is doing.
